As a farmer, I enjoy growing a variety of local produce that finds its way to family tables and markets alike. There's nothing quite like the taste of fresh dhal puri paired with curry—a staple in our homes that brings families together. I often reminisce about the evenings spent by the river—like the Lower Pomeroon—where the waters flow gently, and the laughter of children fills the air. It's moments like these that remind me of the strength and resilience of our community.
Though many of us have ventured abroad, our hearts remain rooted in Guyana. Whether it's through sharing a plate of cook-up rice or discussing the latest news from Essequibo, we maintain our ties to our homeland. I’m proud to be part of a diaspora that celebrates our Creole heritage and supports each other, no matter where we are in the world. We speak Creole, not English, and it's this unique flavor of our identity that makes being Guyanese so special.
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
