Hello! I’m Alvin Deonarine, a proud Guyanese mechanic hailing from Bank Essequibo, nestled in the vibrant community of Tiger Bay Tushen, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Although Guyana may not be geographically part of the Caribbean, like many of my fellow countrymen, I embrace our deep cultural roots that resonate with the islands. Growing up, Christmas mornings were a true treat, not just for the gifts but for the aroma of traditional dishes wafting through the air. I can still taste the pepper pot, lovingly cooked with four different meats and paired perfectly with cassava bread, followed by a refreshing glass of mabby. It’s these flavors that remind me of home and the festive spirit that binds us together, whether we live here or in the diaspora.
As I work on cars and keep my community moving, I also cherish the connections we share, both locally and with Guyanese across the globe.
