Hello! I’m Alvin Marshall, a proud resident of De Kinderen on the beautiful West Coast of Demerara. Growing up in this vibrant region, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich sounds and flavors of Guyanese culture. From the mouthwatering taste of pepperpot during the holidays to the aroma of fresh cook-up rice wafting through the air on a Saturday afternoon, my upbringing has been deeply influenced by the culinary traditions handed down from my father and ancestors.
As someone who has seen both the challenges and potential of our beautiful country, I cherish the contributions of those in the diaspora. Many like my father, who migrated as a teen, have shared their love for our culture, ensuring that the taste of home lives on wherever they go. I often think about the architectural wonders in Georgetown, where my grandfather played a part in developing significant landmarks during the 70s and 80s, reminding me that our roots run deep and our history is rich with resilience.
Though there are tough times, I remain hopeful for Guyana’s future and am excited to see the economic potential bloom. I believe in the strength of our community, both at home and abroad.
