Greetings! My name is Amardesh Singh, and I hail from the picturesque Pomeroon region in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. I’ve been fortunate to grow up surrounded by the lush landscapes, vibrant rivers, and the rich sounds of our local culture. As a labourer, I take pride in contributing to my community, working hard to support my family and ensure we maintain our traditions. Whether it's gathering with neighbors for a meal of pepperpot and rice or sharing stories about our rich history, I cherish the connections that make our lives meaningful.
Having traveled to the villages on the west side for the first time recently, I was struck by the warmth of our people and the beauty of our natural surroundings. The narrow streets and lack of sidewalks may be common, but they tell a story of resilience and adaptability. Just like many in our diaspora, I carry the essence of Guyana with me, whether it's through music at Soca Paradise in NYC or through the flavors of our cuisine that remind me of home.
