About AMENI SAMORA BEATON

About Ameni Beaton

Greetings! My name is Ameni Beaton, and I proudly hail from the vibrant region of Demerara, specifically the lovely community of Uitvlugt Front in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara. As a dedicated cane planter, I am deeply connected to the agricultural roots of our nation, where the lush landscapes and rich soil nurture not just sugarcane but also our local traditions and way of life. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I've always been inspired by the lush greenery and the incredible natural beauty that surrounds us.

Whether it’s sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying a warm bowl of cook-up rice on a Sunday afternoon, food plays a vital role in our culture, bringing families and friends together. I cherish the moments spent with my loved ones, reminiscing about our ancestors and the rich history that makes Guyana unique. It’s essential for me to carry forward these traditions, even as many of us find ourselves in the diaspora, sharing our experiences and stories with the world.

As I continue my journey as a cane planter, I remain committed to fostering connections with both my local community and those of us abroad. I believe that by sharing our stories, whether it be through our love for the land or the flavors of our cuisine, we can keep the spirit of Guyana alive. Let’s celebrate our heritage and the bonds that tie us together, no matter where life takes us!
