Hello! I’m Ananikey Thomas, a proud resident of Onderneeming West on the beautiful West Bank of Demerara. Growing up in Guyana, I have developed a deep appreciation for our vibrant culture, from the rich flavors of our local cuisine—think soft, delectable roti and the comforting taste of pepperpot—to the lively atmosphere of Stabroek Market where the heart of our community pulses. Guyana may not be the wealthiest nation, but there's a unique pride in being Guyanese that I carry with me wherever I go.
My love for Guyana also extends to advocating for improvements in our communities. I’ve often found myself reflecting on the things that matter to us, like the need for better markets and clean streets, as well as the joys of our natural beauty—from the breathtaking views at the Pomeroon River to the lush landscapes that define our homeland. I believe that as we share our stories and experiences, we can bring about the changes we wish to see while celebrating the rich heritage that binds us together.
Living abroad has connected me to an incredible diaspora community that remains passionate about our roots and dedicated to uplifting each other. Whether it’s sharing a laugh over the unique pronunciation of “Demerara” or bonding over the challenges we face back home, I cherish every moment.
