Hello! I’m Andrea Barnes-France, a proud educator from Essequibo, specifically the beautiful Hyde Park area on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Being Guyanese means embracing a vibrant blend of cultures, languages, and traditions. From savoring the rich flavors of our local dishes like pepperpot and roti to exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Kaieteur Falls, I take immense pride in my heritage and the unique experiences it offers.
As a teacher, I believe in the power of knowledge and community. I strive to instill a sense of pride in my students about our country, often sharing stories of our diverse backgrounds—from the British influences that have shaped our history to the cherished connections we have with our neighbors in Suriname. My classroom is a space where curiosity is encouraged, and laughter flows freely, echoing the sentiments of many in our diaspora who find joy in the quirks and commonalities of being Guyanese, even when we’re far from home.
Through education, I hope to inspire the next generation to appreciate the beauty of our land and the richness of our culture. Whether it’s through discussing the significance of our local festivals or diving into the importance of our natural resources, I aim to keep the spirit of Guyana alive in every lesson.
