Greetings! My name is Angela Mahadeo, and I am a proud teacher residing in East Bank Essequibo, specifically 78 Second Street South in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in the heart of Guyana, I’ve always been deeply influenced by the vibrant culture and the incredible diversity that our country offers. From savoring a rich plate of duck curry to celebrating our national dish, pepperpot, I cherish the flavors that connect us to our roots and bring joy to our gatherings.
Guyana, with its lush landscapes and warm-hearted people, holds a special place in my heart. I firmly believe in our national motto, "One People, One Nation, One Destiny," which resonates deeply within our communities. Our history, intertwined with Caribbean influences, makes our culture unique, giving us a sense of pride as we embrace our Indigenous Amerindian heritage alongside our African, East Indian, and Portuguese roots. It’s a beautiful blend that I love sharing with my students as we explore not only our local history but also the rich narratives of our diaspora.
As an educator, my mission is to inspire the next generation to appreciate and celebrate our rich heritage while fostering a sense of belonging, whether they are here at home or abroad. I often tell my students that no matter where life takes them, they will always carry the essence of Guyana within them. Together, we can embrace our culture and advocate for our beloved land, ensuring that its beauty shines brightly both at home and in the wider world.
