Greetings! My name is Angela Agard, and I am proud to call Johanna Cecilia in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a wardmaid, I dedicate my time to caring for others, embodying the warmth and hospitality that our culture is known for. Growing up in a community rich with traditions, I have always cherished the vibrant flavors of our local cuisine, from pepperpot to cook-up rice, and I believe that sharing these dishes can create a beautiful bond among people—whether back home or in the diaspora.
For many of us who carry little Guyana in our hearts, the connections we form across the globe—like those in San Diego—are incredibly important. I often reminisce about places like Kumaka Landing and River Quarry Landing, where the rivers run deep with stories and laughter. As we share our experiences across borders, I feel it's essential to hold on to our values, such as ensuring that our food remains halal for our communities abroad. It’s all about keeping our roots alive, no matter where we are.
Through my work and interactions, I aim to promote our beautiful Guyanese culture and the spirit of togetherness that defines us.
