Hello! My name is Anita Dass, and I’m a dedicated teacher residing in the vibrant community of Cotton Field, located along the scenic Essequibo Coast. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I've developed a deep connection to our rich culture, from the rhythmic sounds of the tassa drumming during the Phagwah celebrations to the hearty aromas wafting from our kitchens, especially when preparing classics like pepperpot and cook-up rice. The warmth of our people and the vibrant colors of our festivals truly reflect the spirit of Guyana.
As an educator, I strive to instill a sense of pride in my students about their heritage. I often share stories of our beautiful landmarks, like the majestic Kaieteur Falls and the historic St. George’s Cathedral. It’s essential for our youth to appreciate the unique blend of cultures that shape our identity. I’ve also noticed a growing interest from the diaspora community, with many expressing their love for Guyana through social media. Whether it’s a comment about the food or the breathtaking scenery, it warms my heart to see our culture celebrated far and wide.
When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy connecting with fellow Guyanese, both at home and abroad.
