Hello! I’m Ann Sooklall, a proud housekeeper from Phoenix Leguan in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant country, where the aroma of curry and the sweetness of ripe mangoes fill the air. Growing up, I have always been surrounded by the warmth of my community and the flavors that define our culinary heritage. Just like many of my fellow Guyanese, I take immense pride in our delicious food, which is often compared to the tantalizing Indian dishes found in Trinidad. Having lived in Little Guyana, I’ve seen how the diaspora has worked hard to uplift our community, especially along Liberty Avenue. The contributions of Guyanese people here are evident in the lively spirit of the area, filled with restaurants that serve the food we cherish and shops that sell pieces of our home. We embrace our heritage while navigating the challenges that come with living away from home, always remembering to celebrate our roots. Although we face hurdles, I believe that together, we can create a brighter future for Guyana and represent our culture with pride.
