Hello! I’m Anthony Williams, a proud resident of River Curimeru Settlement in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My home is nestled in a land rich with traditions, vibrant cultures, and the enchanting sounds of the Pomeroon River. Growing up here, I have always cherished the lush landscapes and the warmth of our diverse communities, including our Indian, African, European, and Indigenous roots, among others. I believe that it’s this mix that makes Guyana truly special, even if the world often only highlights the six main ethnic groups.
As a Guyanese, I take great pride in our culinary delights—the sweet and spicy flavors of pepperpot, the comforting essence of cook-up rice, and the deliciousness of fresh fish from our rivers. There’s nothing quite like sharing a meal with family and friends after a long day, enjoying hearty conversations and laughter, reminiscent of the vibrant gatherings that characterize our culture. I often reflect on the importance of maintaining our traditions while embracing the rich diversity that has shaped Guyana through the years, including our connections with the Caribbean and our diaspora across the globe.
Living in a community like River Curimeru, I am reminded daily of the strength and resilience of the Guyanese spirit. Whether we are navigating local challenges or celebrating our triumphs, like the gatherings during Mashramani or the serenity of the Warakabra Hill, there’s a unique bond that ties us all together. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
