Hello! My name is Arvinda Baldeo, and I proudly call East Bank Essequibo, specifically the Parika Backdam area of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. Growing up here has given me a unique perspective on the vibrant culture and rich natural beauty that define Guyana. From the lush landscapes to the mighty Essequibo River, there’s a deep-rooted connection to my surroundings that fuels my passion for community and authenticity. As a resident, I’ve witnessed both the challenges and resilience of my fellow Guyanese, particularly in light of our country’s ongoing development and the realities many face.
Guyana’s culture is a blend of indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences, which is beautifully reflected in our culinary traditions. Whether it's enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot or savoring a sweet cassava pone, food in Guyana is a celebration of heritage and togetherness. I cherish the moments spent with family and friends, sharing meals that tell stories of our history and resilience, while also fostering connections with the diaspora who carry our culture across the globe.
As someone who engages actively with my community, I value the importance of understanding the realities and complexities that many of us face. The comments from abroad often don’t capture the essence of daily life here. While some may feel that the strides in infrastructure are merely superficial, I believe that each contribution brings us closer to a more equitable future. My experiences here in East Bank Essequibo shape my outlook, and I remain hopeful for a brighter tomorrow for all Guyanese.
