Living here, I have a profound appreciation for our local delicacies, especially the fresh catch from the river, which often graces our family gatherings. Nothing beats a good meal sharing stories about Arapiako and the legacy of our ancestors who once traversed these lands.
As a resident of Guyana, I can attest to the unique identity of our nation. While many may perceive us as part of South America, our rich tapestry of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences sets us apart. You won’t find the Andes or vast Amazon here, but our rich biodiversity is showcased in places like St. Monica, where the lush greenery meets the serene waters. I often reminisce about my childhood adventures along Peter Creek, where I learned the importance of community and connection, values that I carry with me today.
Though I currently reside in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora worldwide.
