Hello! My name is Ashley Ali, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo, a beautiful area in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana has deeply shaped my identity. From the tranquil banks of the Essequibo River to the bustling markets filled with fresh produce, my roots here are a constant source of inspiration. Whether it's enjoying a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or sipping on some locally brewed mauby, the flavors of my homeland are always close to my heart.
As a resident of Tuschens, I cherish the sense of community that defines our way of life. Living in a place rich with history and nature, I often find myself reflecting on our unique Guyanese heritage, which is a blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. This diversity is celebrated everywhere—from the vibrant festivals in Georgetown to the small gatherings along the Pomeroon River, where stories and laughter are shared over a hearty meal.
Connecting with the diaspora is especially meaningful to me. I understand the sentiment of those who, like me, are finding their way back to the roots they may have only heard about, especially in places far from home.
