Hello! I'm Asmita Persaud, a proud Guyanese currently residing in Bank Essequibo 37, Philadelphia East, in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, from the majestic waterways of the Upper Pomeroon River to the vibrant markets of Georgetown, I learned to appreciate the rich tapestry of our culture, especially the flavors of our beloved dishes like pepperpot and metemgee. These experiences have deeply shaped my identity and drive.
As a customs clerk, I navigate the complexities of trade while ensuring that our local goods, particularly the unique exports from Guyana, get the recognition they deserve. It's a privilege to work in a field that connects me to my homeland and the diaspora community, where I've met incredible people who share my passion for our culture. I often reminisce about those sweet moments back home, whether it's enjoying a meal of cook-up rice with family or participating in the vibrant festivities during Mashramani.
