About ATALA OMALARA CLAY

About Atala Clay

Hello! I’m Atala Clay, a passionate teacher based in West Coast Demerara, specifically at 156 Sera Lodge Housing. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been deeply rooted in our vibrant culture, from the rhythmic beats of calypso music to the tantalizing flavors of pepperpot and cook-up rice. There's truly no greater joy than sharing our rich heritage with my students, instilling in them a sense of pride for our beautiful land and its traditions.

Having spent considerable time in the diaspora, I often reflect on the warmth of our community that is hard to find elsewhere, especially in places like Toronto. As many have expressed, while we face challenges back home, the spirit of togetherness remains strong among Guyanese abroad. I strive to bridge that connection, bringing the essence of our homeland into the classroom through stories and lessons that celebrate our history and resilience.

When I’m not teaching, you can find me exploring the natural wonders of our country, like the serene River Calabash Creek, or enjoying a gathering with family and friends over a plate of fried fish and coconut bread. I believe that every experience, whether positive or challenging, contributes to the rich narrative of being Guyanese, and I am committed to fostering that narrative in my teaching and community engagement.
