Hello! My name is Aubyn Bowen, and I proudly hail from the vibrant region of Regina Essequibo Coast, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush beauty of Guyana, I’ve been deeply influenced by our rich culture, which is a beautiful blend of various ethnicities. From the aroma of pepperpot simmering during Christmas to the sweetness of our beloved black cake, food has always played a central role in bringing people together, be it at home or the lively gatherings in Little Guyana in Queens.
Living in such a humid and hot environment, I’ve learned to cherish the simple pleasures of life, whether it's enjoying a refreshing coconut water on a sunny day or taking a stroll along the Essequibo River. The warmth of our communities is mirrored in our traditions, as we celebrate everything from Mashramani to Diwali, always making sure to include everyone in our festivities. I believe that to fully grasp the essence of Guyana, one must experience it firsthand—feel the rhythm of our culture, taste the spice of our food, and embrace our warmth.
As I continue to connect with my roots while residing here, I am dedicated to sharing the stories of our people and promoting our culture, both locally and among the diaspora.
