Hello! Iām Azra Rahim, a proud resident of Regina Essequibo Coast located on 84 Caricom Street in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this rich land, a place where the rivers, like the Pomeroon and the Takatu Creek, weave through our lives, offering a connection to both our heritage and the vibrant community that surrounds us. Growing up near the River Parpi Settlement, I have always embraced the warmth of our culture, which is a delightful fusion of Indigenous, African, and Indian influences.
As someone whose ancestors journeyed from Lucknow, India, during the 19th century, I cherish the flavors of our culinary traditions, from the spicy pepperpot to the sweet and savory roti. I believe that food is a gateway to understanding our diverse heritage, and I often find myself reminiscing about family gatherings where we share stories over a hearty meal. Whether it's a festive holiday or a simple Sunday lunch, the table is always a place of connection for us, much like the gatherings at local landmarks such as the St. Lucian Mission and the Pomeroon River Woodland Settlement.
