Hello! I’m Balram Sookram, a proud labourer hailing from the beautiful Essequibo region, specifically the 256 Old Road South area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I cherish the vibrant culture that makes our country unique, from the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the rich flavors of our local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice. I believe that while wealth may vary, attitudes and community spirit truly define us as Guyanese.
As an individual who has witnessed the infusion of diverse cultures, I appreciate the harmonious coexistence of Afro-Guyanese, Amerindian, and Indo-Guyanese communities. My roots run deep in this land, and I often find solace along the banks of the Pomeroon River, reminiscing about my childhood days spent with family. Living here, every sunset over the river reminds me of the resilience and warmth of our people, and I carry that spirit with me wherever I go.
Though I currently reside in Essequibo, I have a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora, particularly those in places like New York and Canada, who often share their fond memories of home. I take pride in my heritage and enjoy engaging with others who share my love for Guyana, whether it’s discussing our local traditions or simply enjoying a good laugh about the quirks of life back home.
