Hello! My name is Basil Subhan, and I proudly call the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a sawman, I have spent countless days working amidst the lush greenery and serene rivers that define our landscape. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the warmth of our culture—from the mouth-watering aroma of curry lentils to the enchanting sounds of folk music echoing through our villages. I often reminisce about family gatherings where we share stories over a plate of pepperpot or cook-up rice, celebrating our diverse backgrounds. Though I now live along Coast Public Road, the spirit of our land and its people remains deeply rooted in my heart.
The diaspora has given me a unique perspective; while I appreciate the opportunity to connect with Guyanese communities abroad, I also feel a strong bond with my homeland. Guyana may sit on the edge of South America, but our identity is undeniably Caribbean. I take pride in our rich heritage, evidenced by our participation in regional events and the continuing celebration of our traditions.
