Hello, my name is Howard Mark, and I proudly call Coast Public Road Maria's in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated labourer, I work hard to support my family and contribute to our vibrant community. Growing up in Guyana, I have always been surrounded by the rich flavors of our local cuisine, from pepperpot and roti to the sweet delight of cassava pone. These dishes tell our story and connect us to our roots, even as many of us find ourselves scattered across the globe.
Guyana is often misunderstood, particularly when it comes to our cultural identity. While some may think of us as part of the Caribbean, it's essential to recognize our unique position in South America. Our history is filled with resilience, from the indigenous peoples to the diverse communities that have settled here over centuries. The Essequibo River and its lush surroundings inspire me daily, reminding me of our country's beauty and the strength of its people.
Despite the challenges we face, including the realities of economic hardship and the impacts of corruption, I remain hopeful for our future. The recent transformations in our country offer a glimpse of progress, and I believe in the potential of my fellow Guyanese, both at home and abroad.
