Hello! I’m Benedict Campbell, a proud miner hailing from Coast Riverstown Essequibo, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant rivers of my homeland, I developed a deep appreciation for the natural resources that sustain our communities. The camaraderie among the local miners echoes the spirit of our culture, with stories shared over a hearty plate of pepperpot and cassava bread, often enjoyed after a long day’s work.
As a Guyanese, I carry a piece of my country wherever I go. Whether it's the bustling markets of Georgetown or the serene banks of the Essequibo River, each experience adds to my identity. I find joy in sharing our unique traditions, from the colorful Mashramani celebrations to the rich flavors of our national dish, roti and curry. It’s not uncommon to hear jokes about how “david be pickin up dem coolie gyal left right an center budaii,” emphasizing our community’s sense of humor and love for connection.
I’m also passionate about bridging the gap between our diaspora and those of us still in Guyana. Many of us have family abroad who reminisce about home, often commenting on our “mansion” culture with a mix of pride and nostalgia. I believe that by sharing our stories and experiences, we can strengthen our bonds, ensuring that the essence of Guyana continues to thrive no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
