Hello and welcome! My name is Kenrad Benjamin, a dedicated farmer from the heart of Haimaracabra in the beautiful Barima-Waini region of Guyana. Our lush landscapes are not just my home but also my inspiration, as I cultivate both crops and community ties in this vibrant part of the country. Growing up surrounded by the rich flora and fauna of the Pomeroon River, I have a deep appreciation for the natural bounty that our land provides.
Being a Guyanese means understanding the importance of our unique culinary heritage. Whether it's the aroma of freshly made pepperpot wafting through the air or the nostalgia of a Sunday meal shared with family, our food tells the story of resilience and tradition. I often reminisce about my childhood days when my grandmother would make cassareep, a staple that is hard to find outside our borders. It’s these flavors that I miss the most since many in the diaspora express the same longing for our beloved dishes, sometimes even attempting to recreate them with whatever they can find. It's a reminder of how our culture is not just about where we are but also about the memories we carry with us.
Beyond the fields and kitchens, my heart lies in connecting with fellow Guyanese, both near and far. It’s a joy to hear the laughter of friends reminiscing about home, whether it's discussing the best fishing spots or sharing a hearty laugh about our culinary quirks. As I continue to nurture the land, I also strive to maintain the bonds with my community, both in Barima-Waini and within the global Guyanese diaspora. Together, we celebrate our heritage, understanding that while we may be scattered, our roots remain deeply embedded in the rich soil of Guyana.
