Hello! My name is Berchman Joseph, and I’m proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. As a carpenter, I’ve spent years honing my skills, crafting everything from sturdy furniture to intricate wooden designs that reflect the vibrant culture of Guyana. My roots run deep in Pomeroon-Supenaam, a region rich with the lush beauty of our landscapes, like the Pomeroon River, where life flows as freely as the water itself.
Being Guyanese means embracing our rich cultural heritage, from the mouthwatering dishes we share, like pepperpot and cook-up rice, to the warmth of our community gatherings. Although some may have their reservations about our beautiful country, I believe in the strength and resilience of our people. Despite challenges, I find joy in the small moments—like enjoying a plate of fried plantains with family or reminiscing about the good times spent in our local markets. The diaspora may be far, but our connections remain strong, with a shared longing for the familiar taste of home.
As I continue my work in carpentry, I aim to celebrate and elevate our Guyanese culture, hoping to show the world just how special it is to be from this land.
