Hello! I’m Bernadette Richards, a proud housewife living on the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically on the 23 Public Road in Richmond, Pomeroon-Supenaam. My heart beats in sync with the vibrant rhythms of our culture, from the lively sounds of the lapa (local music) to the savory aromas of a freshly cooked meal of cook-up rice and chicken curry wafting through my home. Every dish I prepare carries a piece of our rich heritage, celebrating the diverse ethnicities that make Guyana unique.
Living in this lush paradise, I find joy in exploring the natural beauty that surrounds me, whether it’s a visit to the majestic Kaieteur Falls or a leisurely day at the beaches along the Essequibo River. I cherish the time spent in my community, where neighbors come together to share stories, laughter, and, of course, a plate of golden yellow pepperpot during the holidays. For me, these moments reinforce the bond we share as Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora.
As one of many Guyanese living abroad in spirit, I enjoy connecting with fellow expatriates and sharing our stories, especially how outsiders hilariously mispronounce our beloved place names! My passion is to celebrate our culture, educate others about our rich history, and help maintain the connections that make our community strong, no matter where we are in the world.
