Hello! I’m BeVaughn Garraway, a dedicated teacher based in the vibrant community of Essequibo, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My passion for education is matched only by my love for our rich culture, from the mouthwatering delicacies like cook-up rice and pepperpot to our beloved local traditions. Having spent my life in this lush, diverse landscape, I pride myself on nurturing the next generation of thinkers and doers, while instilling in them a sense of pride in their heritage.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often hear comments like "Make Guyana the 51st State, problem solved!" which highlight the unique connection we have with our homeland, even from afar. Many of us share fond memories of our stunning landmarks, like the iconic Kaieteur Falls and the long floating bridges that showcase our engineering prowess. Through my work, I aim to inspire my students to appreciate our country's beauty and potential, reminding them that, despite our challenges, we are capable of greatness.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy sharing local wisdom, like the best way to enhance a watermelon with a sprinkle of salt—an unexpected but delightful experience! Whether I’m connecting with friends and family in New York or engaging with the local community, I carry the spirit of Guyana with me.
