Hello! My name is Bharrat John, and I’m a proud labourer hailing from the vibrant community of Essequibo, specifically 1241 Block 8 in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been surrounded by the rich warmth of our culture, from the mouth-watering aroma of pepperpot wafting through the air during festive seasons to the lively sounds of our traditional music. I believe there’s nothing quite like sharing a hearty meal with friends, whether it's fresh fish from the Pomeroon River or a plate of delicious curry at a family gathering.
Living in Essequibo, I’m fortunate to be close to some of our country’s stunning natural beauty, including the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls and the serene beaches that stretch along the coast. These places not only remind me of home but also connect me to our diaspora—those who venture abroad yet carry Guyana in their hearts. Many visitors to our beautiful country often leave with a newfound appreciation for our way of life, as I’ve heard from others who have traveled extensively. It’s always heartwarming to see individuals come to understand our rich heritage and the resilience of our people.
I embrace my identity as a Guyanese and take pride in the strength and richness of our community. Despite the challenges we face, including ongoing struggles with neighboring Venezuela, our spirit remains unyielded. I believe one day our country will flourish, and in the meantime, I celebrate every moment of our unique culture and the bonds we share, both locally and with those in the diaspora. Home is where the heart is, and for me, that will always be Guyana.
