Greetings! My name is Bibi Butters, and I am proud to call River Grant Felicity Jacklow, in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my home. As a dedicated farmer, I cultivate the rich lands of Guyana, growing an array of crops that reflect the diverse agricultural heritage of our nation. The warmth of our community and the vibrant landscapes remind me daily of the incredible resilience and spirit that define us as Guyanese.
Having grown up surrounded by the sounds of my grandmother’s tales and the aroma of traditional dishes like roti and curry wafting through our home, I carry those cherished memories wherever I go. I often reminisce about the time spent in Regent Street and Durban Street, now living abroad in Canada. It’s in these moments that I truly appreciate how our culture shapes our identity, whether it’s through our local music or the flavors of home that bring us together, even from thousands of miles away.
While I navigate life as part of the diaspora, I remain connected to my roots and the welcoming spirit of my homeland. Guyana is not for the faint-hearted, but the strength of our communities and the lush beauty of our rivers and forests inspire me every day.
