My name is Bindraban Ramdass, and I proudly call Essequibo, specifically 301 North Tushen East in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my home. As a carpenter, I spend my days crafting furniture and homes that reflect the rich culture and heritage of Guyana. I believe that every piece of wood tells a story, and I strive to honor those stories through my work. Guyana, with its lush rainforests and vibrant communities, is a peaceful place that holds a special magic, and I feel blessed to be part of it.
Growing up in this beautiful country, I have come to appreciate the wonderful blend of cultures that shape our identity. From the savory street food like pepperpot that fills our homes with warmth to the lively gatherings that celebrate our diverse heritage, every element contributes to the unique Guyanese experience. I have enjoyed hearing the laughter of friends and family as we reminisce about our history and the journey our nation has taken since gaining independence in 1966, while still embracing our Commonwealth ties.
As someone who is deeply connected to both my local community and the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the stories and memories shared by those who have ventured beyond our borders. Whether it’s a simple exchange about the way we pronounce our words—sometimes funny, sometimes heartfelt—or suggestions to explore local spots like the Bed Stuy fish fry, I find joy in these connections.
