Hello! I’m Joshua Boyal, a farmer based in the serene landscapes of Moruca, Barima-Waini. My roots run deep in the rich soil of Guyana, where the vibrant culture and lush surroundings shape my daily life. Growing up here, I’ve developed a profound love for our local produce, particularly cassava and plantains, and I take pride in bringing fresh, organic fruits and vegetables to my community. There's nothing quite like sharing a plate of pepper pot or metemgee with family and friends during our Sunday gatherings—it's a taste of home that I hold dear.
Living in Moruca, I am fortunate to be surrounded by the beauty of the Pomeroon River and the vast greenery that defines our region. The connection to nature is a huge part of who I am, and it fuels my passion for sustainable farming practices. I often reminisce about the simple yet fulfilling days spent fishing along our rivers, which have been a source of nourishment and connection for generations of Guyanese. My goal is not only to produce food but also to foster a sense of community and support among my neighbors, just as I learned from my elders.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I recognize the importance of staying connected to our homeland. Whether it’s through sharing stories of Moruca with family abroad or introducing them to our rich traditions, I strive to keep our culture alive. I truly believe that despite the distance, our hearts remain tied to this beautiful land, and I look forward to welcoming my loved ones back to Guyana someday, so they can experience the warmth and spirit of our home.
