Hello! My name is Budbheeer Singh, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. As a labourer, I have deep roots in my community, where every day is an opportunity to contribute to the vibrant life around me. Living along the banks of the Pomeroon River, I cherish the stunning views and rich biodiversity that our land offers. It’s a place where the laughter of children and the smell of fresh cook-up rice fill the air, reminding me of the warmth of our culture.
Guyana is often celebrated for its diverse heritage, and I take pride in being part of a lineage that reflects this rich mosaic—whether it’s sharing a plate of roti and curry with friends or enjoying the sounds of chutney music during festivals. It's fascinating how our Indian ancestors, particularly those who came from South India, are part of our unique identity. We call them “Madrasi,” and their influence is felt in our food, music, and daily lives.
As I continue to work hard and support my family, I hold close the connections I’ve made within the diaspora. Whether it’s sharing stories about my hometown with those living abroad or simply laughing at the way some outsiders struggle with our local place names, like Barrteeka, I am proud to represent Guyana. My hope is to keep our traditions alive and to connect with others who share our love for this beautiful country.
