Greetings! My name is Carl Thomas, and I proudly call the River Borada Settlement in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a labourer, I cherish the vibrant spirit of my community, where every day resonates with the rich sounds of nature and the laughter of friends and family. Here, life is intertwined with the rhythm of the rivers and the lush greens that surround us. One of my fondest memories is indulging in guinep during the season, its sweet juiciness a true delight that brings back childhood memories.
Guyana is a land blessed with breathtaking beauty, from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the diverse wildlife of the rainforest. I often think about how amazing it would be for more people to experience our stunning landscapes and rich culture, which is a beautiful blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. Whether it's sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or gathering with friends to watch cricket, the warmth of our traditions creates a sense of belonging wherever I am, even as I connect with our diaspora community across the globe.
Though I may currently find myself far from home, my heart remains deeply rooted in Guyanese soil. The stories I hear from fellow Guyanese living abroad inspire me, and I hope to contribute to our legacy, ensuring that the beauty and culture of Guyana continue to thrive.
