Hello! I’m Carleen De Jesus, a proud resident of Pomeroon in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant landscape, where the lush greenery and flowing rivers tell stories of our rich history and diverse cultures. Growing up here, I’ve been surrounded by the scents of pepperpot simmering on Sundays and the sweet melodies of the local markets, where fresh produce and handmade crafts come together to create a unique tapestry of daily life.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connection with my homeland, which extends beyond our borders. Whether it's sharing a laugh over the mispronunciation of our beloved place names, like "Pom River Grant" or "Arasaro," or reminiscing about evenings spent enjoying cook-up rice and fish, I find joy in celebrating our shared experiences. I often engage with fellow Guyanese, reflecting on those little things that make our culture special, reminding us of home even when we are far away.
Through my work and community involvement, I aim to showcase the beauty of Guyana and foster connections among those of us living abroad.
