Hello! I’m Chameatie Dewan, a passionate teacher based in Bank Essequibo, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. I believe that education is a cornerstone for growth, not just in academics but also in understanding and embracing our rich cultural heritage. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I’ve always been inspired by the strength and resilience of our people, especially the stories shared around the dinner table, often over a steaming plate of pepperpot or a comforting bowl of metemgee.
As someone who cherishes my roots, I frequently reminisce about the sweet sounds of the Upper Pom River and the unique flavors of our local dishes that keep my heart connected to home. Whether it’s enjoying a meal with family or sharing the joys of our culinary delights with friends from the diaspora, I find that food has a magical way of bringing us all together. From the bustling streets of Georgetown to the serene banks of the Pomeroon, each part of Guyana holds a special place in my heart.
In my teaching, I strive to instill this love for our culture in my students, encouraging them to explore the beauty of our land and the importance of our traditions. I hold a firm belief that embracing our identity strengthens our community, whether we are together in Guyana or spread across the globe.
