Hello! My name is Chitra Bhagwandin, and I proudly call the vibrant community of Pomeroon in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a supervisor, I dedicate my time to fostering collaboration among my team while cherishing the rich cultural heritage that defines our lives here in Guyana. Growing up near the lush rivers and verdant landscapes, I have developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty and the warm-hearted spirit of our people.
In Pomeroon, we celebrate our diverse roots, which include influences from Indigenous, African, East Indian, and Amerindian cultures. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of aromatic curries or sharing a sweet treat like coconut drop, food plays an integral role in our gatherings. I also cherish the moments spent at local festivals, where we come together to dance, sing, and embrace our heritage. As we connect with our diaspora, I recognize the importance of maintaining these bonds, as many of us share a love for marrying our Caribbean traditions with new experiences abroad.
Despite the challenges we face, I remain optimistic about the future of our beloved Guyana. With the recent developments in our economy, there's a sense of hope that we will thrive together.
