Hello! My name is Christine Oerlemans, and I am a proud housewife living in the beautiful Pomeroon region of Guyana. Nestled along the serene Pomeroon River, my home is a place where the lush greenery meets the vibrant culture that is quintessentially Guyanese. Growing up immersed in our rich traditions, I cherish the moments spent preparing local delicacies like pepperpot and metemgee, and sharing them with family and friends. Having spent some time in the UK, I returned to my roots in 2019, witnessing firsthand the challenges and potential of our homeland. While I acknowledge the struggles we face, including the effects of corruption and inequality, I also see the resilience and warmth of our people. The essence of Guyana lies not just in its landscapes, but in the spirit of its communities—from Georgetown’s bustling markets to the tranquil beauty of the Upper Pomeroon. Like many, I believe that to truly appreciate our country, one must venture beyond the city and immerse oneself in the heart and soul of our villages.
