Hello! I'm Christine Carter, a dedicated teacher based in the picturesque Essequibo Mainstay Lake region of Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant waterways of Essequibo, I have always been motivated by the beauty of our land and the incredible potential of our youth. My passion for education is deeply rooted in a desire to inspire the next generation to rise above the challenges we face in our society and to foster a deeper understanding of our cultural heritage.
As I navigate daily life in a country rich in natural resources yet beset by social and political challenges, I draw strength from my community. The sounds of the bustling markets, the aroma of pepperpot and curry wafting through the air, and the laughter of children playing by the riverside remind me of the resilience of the Guyanese spirit. Connecting with the Guyanese diaspora has been a significant aspect of my journey. I cherish the stories shared by those who’ve ventured far from our shores, whether it's reminiscing about a doubles from Aniel’s Roti Shop in Queens or sharing tales of family gatherings back home. I am committed to nurturing our local culture in my classroom while encouraging my students to maintain ties with our diaspora, reminding them that they are part of a larger story that transcends borders.
