Greetings! I’m Samantha Pearson-Smith, a dedicated teacher based in the picturesque Essequibo Mainstay Lake region of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich heritage. From celebrating the joyous festivals of Mashramani to enjoying the delightful flavors of egg ball and stew, my life is steeped in the traditions that make us unique. I cherish sharing these cultural experiences with my students, helping them connect with their roots through education.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of community and the bonds we share, even from afar. Whether it’s indulging in the mouthwatering dishes that remind us of home or reflecting on the tales of our ancestors, it is through these connections that we maintain our identity. I often reminisce about the warmth of St. Monica and the culinary wonders of Queens, where I have heard many echo the sentiment of how the food reminds them of home—a sentiment I wholeheartedly understand!
