Hello! My name is Clare Mohabeer, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the 25 Public Road Coffee in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my life is a vibrant blend of local culture and community. Growing up here, surrounded by the stunning rivers like the Kamarang and the embrace of nature, has deeply influenced my culinary passions and my connection to the rich traditions of my homeland.
As a domestic worker, I cherish the opportunity to bring a taste of Guyana into the homes I work in. Whether it’s preparing a flavorful plate of pepperpot or a comforting serving of cook-up rice, I aim to share the warmth of our culture through food. The essence of our gatherings often revolves around these dishes, where family and friends come together to celebrate life, much like we would at festive moments like Mashramani or during the harvest season along the Lower Pom River.
Though I am deeply rooted in my local community, I value the connections we share with the Guyanese diaspora across the globe. The stories of our ancestors and the places they came from, such as Ticanali Kabakaburi, inspire me to keep our traditions alive while embracing the future.
