Growing up in Guyana, I was immersed in the diverse dialects and accents that make our country unique; each region has its own flavor, much like our beloved dishes. Whether it’s savoring a hearty bowl of pepperpot during the festive season or enjoying a plate of metemgee on a Sunday morning, food has always been a way for me to connect with my roots and share my culture with others. It’s no wonder that so many members of the diaspora, including myself, feel a deep sense of pride when we see Guyanese cuisine celebrated worldwide.
