Welcome! My name is Colis Cameron, and I proudly serve as a fireman in the beautiful region of Pomeroon-Supenaam, specifically on Coast Demerara. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes of Guyana, I have always felt a deep connection to my country’s vibrant culture, from the rhythmic sounds of the parang music during Christmas to the aromatic spices that fill the air during Phagwah. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of metemgee with some fresh fish or savoring the sweetness of cassareep drizzled over my meals, I cherish the culinary delights that reflect our rich heritage.
As someone who has seen the rapid changes in our nation, especially with the discovery of oil, I’m filled with both excitement and hope for the future. It's a time for growth and opportunity, and I often reminisce about the days when many of my friends sought work across the Caribbean, especially in Trinidad. Now, with Guyana emerging as a land of promise, it’s heartening to see our communities flourish and the diaspora reconnect with their roots, sharing stories and experiences that bridge the gap between our past and the potential ahead.
When I’m not responding to emergencies, I enjoy exploring the natural beauty of Guyana, from our majestic rivers to the stunning Kaieteur Falls. It’s these experiences that remind me of why I love my homeland. I look forward to the day when I can share my journey with others, perhaps even inviting friends from afar to experience the warmth of our people and the splendor of our land.
