Hello! My name is Darshanan Benjamin, and I am a proud labourer from the vibrant Pom River Grant Teneze Farm in the heart of Guyana. Growing up in this lush region, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture and the natural beauty that surrounds us. Whether it's the gentle flow of the Pomeroon River or the vibrant markets filled with local produce, I find inspiration in the everyday life and traditions of my community.
Food is an essential part of our Guyanese identity, and nothing beats a hot roti paired with spicy curry that brings smiles to faces across our neighborhoods. I often reminisce about the days spent at the Dimond rum distillery and the laughter shared at gatherings, where stories of Lower Pom River School Island and River Comaro Settlement come alive. It’s these connections to our roots that fuel my passion for ensuring that our culture remains vibrant, even among the diaspora.
As I navigate life as a labourer, I cherish the opportunity to share my experiences and celebrate our diverse community—home to Africans, East Indians, Chinese, Portuguese, and Europeans. Each of us contributes to the rich mosaic that is Guyana.
