Hello! I’m Darshini Persaud, a proud teacher based in the heart of Guyana, specifically on the beautiful Essequibo Coast. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where every day is a celebration of our rich heritage and diverse culture. From the deliciousness of our local cuisine, like pepperpot and metemgee, to the warmth of our community gatherings, I strive to bring a piece of Guyana into every lesson I share with my students.
I believe that education is not just about textbooks, but also about connecting with our surroundings and our shared history. As someone who has witnessed the beauty of our landscapes—from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the serene rivers of Pomeroon—I encourage my students to appreciate our country’s natural wonders and cultural significance. It’s important to me that they understand they belong to one of the oldest civilizations in the world, and that, like many in the diaspora, we are all part of a global family.
Alongside my teaching, I love engaging with the Guyanese community, both at home and abroad. Whether it’s through sharing stories or indulging in the comforts of our local foods that I miss so dearly when I travel, I cherish the connections we build.
