Growing up in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of our rivers, like the Pomeroon River, and the vibrant communities that gather around them. From the lively chatter at the local markets to the tantalizing scents of cook-up rice and pepperpot wafting through the air, my heart beats to the rhythm of Guyanese life.
As we’ve seen in discussions across the diaspora, there is a deep love for our homeland, but also a concern about the direction we’re heading, especially with the recent influx of tourism and the government’s push to showcase our country to the world. While I share the excitement about the potential of our natural resources, I also believe it’s vital for us to address the challenges that come with it. Our streets deserve to be clean, our heritage respected, and our communities preserved, so we can welcome visitors with the warmth and friendliness we've always been known for.
