Hello! My name is David Roopnarain, and I proudly call 54 Sans Souci Wakenaam in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a dedicated labourer, I understand the hard work that goes into building a community. Living in this vibrant part of Guyana, I am surrounded by the lush greenery and the gentle flow of the Pomeroon River, which has shaped not just our landscape but also our way of life. The local markets are filled with the aroma of fresh fruits and vegetables, reminding me of the days when Guyana was known as the 'fruit basket of the Caribbean'.
In my free time, I enjoy sharing stories with my friends over a hot plate of pepperpot or some fried fish, connecting with the spirit of our culture. The lively conversations often turn to the challenges we face, from economic struggles to the hopes we hold for our community's future. As I often say, “If you were poor and never received help from the government, you’d be upset too.” It's important to voice our experiences and work together to foster change.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our fellow countrymen abroad, whether they are reminiscing about the labba creek in Karawab or the vibrant atmosphere of Georgetown.
