Hello! My name is Dawn Hazel, and I proudly serve as a firefighter in the vibrant community of West Coast Demerara, specifically in Boeraserie Housing, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I've always been inspired by the stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage that our beautiful country has to offer. From the breathtaking views of the Essequibo River to the lively atmosphere of Mashramani celebrations, my experiences here have shaped my dedication to serving and protecting my community.
As a firefighter, I embrace the challenges of my role with the same passion that many Guyanese have when sharing our beloved dishes—whether it's a plate of spicy pepperpot or the sweet delight of guyanese black cake during the festive season. I believe in the power of community and have witnessed firsthand how we come together, whether it's celebrating Diwali with colorful lights or sharing stories of our diaspora experiences. I cherish the stories shared by those who have lived here, like my friends who studied at Stella Mary’s Primary School, and I enjoy reminiscing about our local favorites, from Bruck Teeth candy to a good chat about the latest cricket match. No matter where life takes us, the spirit of Guyana remains in our hearts, and I strive to carry that warmth and resilience in all I do.
