Greetings! My name is Lotoya Hazel, and I proudly call the Shore Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the iconic 18 Public Road in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, this vibrant community has shaped my understanding of resilience and culture. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and the serene banks of the Essequibo River, I've developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty and rich heritage that Guyana offers.
In my daily life, I celebrate our unique culinary traditions—nothing beats a hearty plate of pepperpot or a warm serving of cook-up rice shared with family and friends, often while regaling stories of our beloved Myrie Island or our cherished River Yacouri Settlement. The flavors of our local dishes remind me of the bonds we share within our community, as well as with the diaspora scattered across the globe. While challenges exist, including the pressing issues of infrastructure and governance that are often swept under the rug, I remain hopeful for the future of Guyana, where our voices matter and our ambitions can flourish.
