Hello! My name is Dawn Bowen, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast home, specifically from the vibrant community of Henrietta Housing. As a housewife, I dedicate my time to nurturing my family and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. Growing up in Guyana has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our natural beauty and friendly people. From the lush greenery of the Pomeroon River to the bustling streets of Georgetown, each place holds a special memory. I often reminisce about family gatherings filled with laughter and the aroma of our local dishes, such as dhal puri and curry, which bring us all together. Although I recognize the challenges faced by many, the warmth of the Guyanese spirit shines through, especially in our rural areas, where community bonds are strong.
As much as I love my country, I also understand the experiences of our diaspora. Many of my friends and family have ventured abroad, sharing their stories and maintaining their connections to our homeland, whether it’s through cultural festivals or simply enjoying a bowl of cook-up rice. I remain hopeful for our nation’s future, where our potential can be realized, and our stories celebrated—both at home and beyond.
