Hello! I’m Debbie Torres, a proud resident of Good Hope on the Essequibo Coast in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up here, I’ve come to love the vibrant culture that defines our community—from the sweet taste of freshly made metemgee to the rich aroma of pepperpot simmering in kitchens during the festive season. My heart belongs to this beautiful land, where the lush greenery meets the serene rivers, and the warmth of our people shines through in every gathering.
As someone deeply connected to my roots, I cherish the bonds with fellow Guyanese, whether we’re sharing stories of our childhood in places like River Two Friends or reminiscing about nights spent by the Pomeroon River under the stars. Living in Essequibo, I often reflect on the beauty of our landscapes, from St. Monica to the Curimeru Settlement, and how they connect us all. Each place holds a piece of our history and identity.
